The Story Unfolds

Like an octopus, the Domboshava story started to unfold with each tentacle resembling and touching different aspects of this community. I was also relearning who l was as an African woman, learning about land rights, tradition, culture, heritage, hierarchy, politics, the trees and the environment, spirituality, our food, deforestation, seasonal rains, lack of running water and electricity - The list goes on. Everything was intertwined. The circle of life that was entangled in space and time was unfolding. Mrs Bare opened me up from within and took away the scales from my eyes. I was challenged about colonialism, christianity and our culture, which was deemed demonic and evil. The belief was that it needed to be eradicated. I asked myself one question, "Who am l in this cycle of life and what is my contribution?" To be continued...Look for part two of the story of the Domboshava Community Project to be published in Summer 2018.
