Plena is a musical tradition that evolved on the island of Puerto Rico. Plena is played on a set of three handheld drums called panderos or panderetas. Panderos look similar to tambourines but without the cymbals. The largest and deepest drum is called the bajo, the middle drum is called the seguidora, and the smallest, most high pitched drum is called the requinto.
